TRANSIT : LYSE VANCAMPENHOUDT PRESENTS A WORK BY ANNE BONNET

Nomadic catalogue of the Ixelles Museum

For one evening, a work from the collections of the Ixelles Museum will be shuttled to the ISELP to tell us about its history and specificities. An art historian, a critic or a curator has chosen it. He or she will comment on it in its presence, based on its material reality. TRANSIT is a joint initiative of ISELP and the Ixelles Museum.

This time, Lyse Vancampenhoudt presents a work by Anne Bonnet entitled Végétaux, an oil on canvas dating from 1958.

A Brussels painter, Anne Bonnet (1908-1960) experienced a period of intimate realism at the end of the 1930s. After the war, she turned to a geometrical but sensitive abstraction, animated by the effects of textures and the delicacy of colours. Alongside Gaston Bertrand, Mig Quinet and Louis Van Lint, among others, she was associated with the emergence, in 1945, of the Jeune Peinture Belge association.

Lyse Vancampenhoudt is an art historian and has a master’s degree in gender studies. She has started a doctoral research at UCL, in co-promotion with the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, on the theme of women artists in Belgium between 1945 and 1970. Her research focuses on the visibility of the work of women artists and actors in the Belgian art world.
