BETWEEN DIALOGUE AND ISOLATION

The UK has a particular geographical and cultural position, between contact and distance, both in the modern and contemporary era. Inspired by their continental counterparts, British sculptors have nevertheless cultivated their own artistic identity, halfway between inevitable historicity and political will. The result is one of the richest and most original bodies of work ever produced, one that has in many ways shaped the trajectory of sculpture for almost seventy years.

From Henry Moore to Rachel Whiteread, there are many great figures to (re)discover.

This cycle explores the evolution of 20th century British sculpture through five chronological journeys:

London – London: From Antiquity to the Turner Prize, the mould and its trajectories

The course will be given by Tarquin Sinan, PhD in Art History and specialist in contemporary sculpture. He is mainly interested in its spatiality and perception. He is currently working as a consultant in the management of the European Parliament’s contemporary art collection.
